Dubbed, “The Prelude to a Championship,” series point leader Dale Blaney, in the George Fisher owned/wrenched #2 took command of the 50 lap affair on circuit number 44 over Craig Mintz. Tyler Walker Scores Big at Hilltop with O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions |
CAMARGO, IL (09-01-08 ) by Robert Cortum - O'Reilly All Star Public Relations For one last time in 2008, the O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions visited the high banks of Hilltop Speedway. As the checkered flag flew, Tyler Walker was crowned once again an All Star victor. Walker, driving the Kasey Kahne Motorsports #91 on a testing basis, made good on the opportunity by parking his sprinter in victory lane, and then doing his traditional victory backflip. Walker would shoot out to the early lead in the 30 lap affair from his pole position. At times, Walker would have as much as a 3/4 straightaway lead over the competition. The feature event wasn’t easy for Walker though as the cars were slowed for a total of 4 caution flags allowing Lee Jacobs to get to him several times. By the final caution, which flew on lap 21, Jacobs had found a preferred line on the very racy surface to give Walker a hard battle as the laps wound down. Walker and Jacobs would do battle one last time on the final lap including a slide job by Jacobs that was quickly countered by Walker through turns 1 and 2. Turn 3 found Tim Shaffer sitting in 3rd place and could have been the catbird’s seat as the 2 front runners got together racing hard for the final turn. At the flag it was Walker, Jacobs, and Shaffer. Before the night’s events Tyler stated, “I am just having a blast being back racing sprint cars. I thought I wanted to get into NASCAR, but didn’t have the same passion as I have running sprints.” Walker added, “I am back and I am here to stay, this is what I love doing.” The season point’s battle continues on for Dale Blaney and Lance Dewease. Blaney’s margin will grow after a top 5 finish on the night. Lance Dewease found himself in trouble midway through the event bringing out one of the nights yellow flags, but still finished well in the 13th position. The night’s fast qualifier was hometown hero, Rob Chaney. Heat Races were won by Brandon Martin (Heat 1), Lance Dewease (Heat 2), and Brian Ellenberger (Heat 3). The Dash event was won by Tim Shaffer. Blake Feese would win the night’s B-Main. The Series will be back in Ohio this upcoming weekend as they travel to another favorite facility on the schedule, Fremont. |

Blaney Takes Checkers at 2008 Attica Ambush with O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions |
CAMARGO, IL (08-31-08 ) by Robert Cortum - O'Reilly All Star Public Relations For the 7th time in his 2008 campaign, Dale Blaney was able to defend off the competition and become victorious in exciting O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions action. Blaney worked his way up to the front from his 3 place starting position with the help of his low side groove and lapped traffic. Blaney will also recapture the series point’s battle. In the onset of the A-feature, Rob Chaney would grab onto the lead from his front row position. Chaney would look to be the dominant sprinter on the night as he continued to lead running the high side of the track. Chaney would find himself among lapped traffic which saw many different drivers attempting various lines on the track to see what fit best to their mounts. Blaney would capture the lead in the green to checkered affair pulling off the bottom against Chaney at about the mid-way point. Lee Jacobs however was charging to the front and put on a great display of driving to the Attica loyalists and would fall less than 2 feet from victory at the flagstand to garner his 2nd top 3 of the weekend. The 4-time Ohio Speedweek Champion, Blaney, has been making the most of opportunities as they come to him in the final stages of the 2008 battle for the $50,000 championship. Blaney takes a slim point lead over Lance Dewease heading into the final night of the Labor Day swing for the series at Hilltop Speedway near Millersburg, Ohio on Sunday, August 31. Heat Race winners on the night were Danny Smith (Heat 1), Tyler Walker (Heat 2), Mike Dussell (Heat 3), and Jody Keegan (Heat 4). The Nights C-Main winner was Ed Neumeister with Lance Dewease taking the B-Main win. Chris Andrews would bring home the Dash victory on the night. |

Shaffer Takes Win #4 at Lernerville |
CAMARGO, IL (08-30-08 ) by Robert Cortum - O'Reilly All Star Public Relations
Tim Shaffer returned to victory lane with the O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions with his 4th win at a very familiar place, Lernerville Speedway. In a 3 day Labor Day stomp on tap, Shaffer in the Call Motorsports 83 machine took to the track in which he won a track championship in 1993.
Tyler Walker in the Kasey Kahne #91 took the early lead from his outside pole position for the first 8 circuits until his mount went to tall and went over the berm allowing Brock Mayes and Tim Shaffer to move past. Walker would come back a handful of circuits later until the caution flag flew for the 2nd time. On the restart, Walker led Shaffer and Mayes to the flag, but Shaffer would pull a bottom to top slide job on him to gain the lead for the first time.
Shaffer and Walker would make it a battle on the restart trading slide jobs and running wheel to wheel at times. Lap 27 brought out the final of 3 caution flags of the night as Shaffer held point with Walker and Mayes in tow. Walker would run up on the berm yet again allowing Shaffer to run seemingly effortlessly to the checkered flag.
The feature event saw plenty of passing opportunities as Brandon Martin in the Level Performance #11m would pick off 12 spots on his way to a 4th place run. Series point’s leader Lance Dewease worked his way up 11 positions from his 20^th place start to try to keep the points battle just that much tighter. |

Dewease Wins Battle at the Battlegrounds |
CAMARGO, IL (08-24-08 ) by Robert Cortum - O'Reilly All Star Public Relations
If someone was to script a series of races leading up to the final night of the point’s battle, tonight’s race at the Butler Battlegrounds would have been the inspiration. The O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions took to the famed facility for the first time in more than 2 years, and they put on an electrifying show for the fans. Lance Dewease in the Catoctin #30c was the first driver to reach the checkered flag, but points nemesis Dale Blaney in the George Fisher owned/wrenched #2 followed him up in 2^nd . At the initial green flag in the single caution affair, Blaney would jump out to the early lead with Dewease in tow. Dewease would take the advantage over Blaney within the first 7 circuits. Blaney did not give in though and stuck to his “Lowrider” groove and worked his way up and passed Dewease once more. The two continued to do battle with Blaney out front until Blaney attempted a block move near the high side that pushed his sprinter over the cushion allowing Dewease to take charge and to round out the event. The nights event saw the first and second place drivers in the points battle change the lead 3 times. Lee Jacobs, who has taken over the driving responsibilities in the #59 car came home 3^rd . Completing the top 5 would be Danny Smith in the #18 and Blake Feese in the #7k.
The night’s dash event went to Tim Shaffer in the Call Motorsports #83a. Following Shaffer to the flag were Blaney, Jacobs, Feese, Dewease, and Smith. The O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions dash event are for members only and gives the drivers one last look at the track before the feature and ever valuable series points. |
